My Child Has Aphasia. How does he get better and how do we work with his school?

We are sorry to hear about your child's aphasia. We have found several important issue to address:

  • Consultation and assistance with the child's interaction with his/her school system and school-based SLP.  Usually, a school district does not have the background, tools or expertise to deal with childhood, acquired aphasia.
  • Effective treatment and practice tools that are specifically designed for a younger person with aphasia.  As you know there are critical differences between developmental communication disorders and acquired aphasia and its related disorders.
  • There is great value in children with aphasia interacting with other children who have similar experiences.
