Growth and change are possible—in fact, they are an inevitable part of life. Although most of us accept the certainty of facing challenges in life, we are often not aware of the possibilities for healing and growth these challenges offer. Psychotherapy opens the door to deep self-inquiry, to better understand your truth through the lens of self-compassion and self-acceptance, which is where healing begins. Therapy is an opportunity to use current and recurrent challenges to address and heal past wounds that are keeping you stuck and embrace fears that are holding you back. As you do this work your self-awareness grows. With deeper self-awareness comes the ability to make conscious choices about your life, empowering you to create positive change in your relationship to self, others and the world.
I am a graduate of John F. Kennedy University, with a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology, Holistic Studies, I have been working as a therapist for over 20 years. I believe in each person's inherent wholeness, and deeply honor the process of assisting and witnessing another uncover their truth. I am passionate about my work, and feel honored to share in the healing, growth and development of others.
I draw inspiration for my work from both Eastern and Western thought. The theories and healing modalities that inform my work are Psychodynamic (unconscious processes and childhood wounding) Humanistic, (self-actualization and self-realization), Mindfulness (developing awareness), Buddhist Psychology (self-development relieves suffering), Internal Family Systems (healing inner parts), Emotionally Focused Therapy (emotional awareness leads to healthy relationships), Sensorimotor (trauma based, holistic and body centered), Trauma Regulation and Integration Process (TRIP), (trauma focused, body based to restore connection between the brain, the mind and the body).
Working with couples I will help you to identify what triggers circular patterns of arguing, conflict and discontent, and learn new behaviors to change the patterns. Couples commonly trigger each other’s early wounds; I will help you recognize these triggers and how they play out in the relationship. With awareness of each person's wounds comes the ability to take ownership and responsibility for oneself, as well as grow a deeper, more compassionate and tolerant understanding of your partner, all of which are essential to a healthy couple dynamic. With courage, honesty, humility and commitment to the process, even the most challenging circumstances offer the possibility for transformation, increased intimacy and ultimately a healthier more satisfying relationship.
