CHECKING THE RIGHT BOX

Social media is the new in. Only ten years ago some college students designed a program to communicate with each other on campus. They called it Facebook. Now there are 1.3 billion Facebook users. Collectively, they spend 640 million minutes on it each month, with each visit averaging 18 minutes and 48% of all users log in each day. Three out of four users are from outside The United States. Every twenty minutes two million friends are requested and three million messages are sent.

A recent controversy has arisen as to what happens to one’s Facebook account when they die. Now Facebook is making it easier to plan for your online afterlife. Users can now pick who can manage their account after they die. They are called “legacy contacts.”

If you want to designate someone to manage your account after you die, you simply click on the upside-down triangle on your page. Then you can live on forever on Facebook. Many are now relieved that there is cyber life after death.

It makes me wonder how many people are that concerned with their eternal security and life after death. The Bible tells about another “legacy contact,” and His name is Jesus. We, too, have a box to check and it only involves asking Him to be our Lord and Savior and asking forgiveness of our sins.

God loves us so much that He gave us His one and only Son, so that whosoever believes in Him shall never perish but have eternal life. Eternity is a long time. Probably Facebook won’t last that long, but our relationship with Jesus will be forever.

Have you checked the Jesus box in your heart by confessing your sins and asking Him to live in your heart forever and ever? If not, get right with Him and don’t wait another day.

THE HORSE RAFFLE:

A young man named Chuck bought a horse from a farmer for $250.
The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.

The next day, the farmer drove up to Chucks house and said, ‘Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the horse died.’ Chuck replied, ‘Well, then just give me my money back.’ The farmer said, ‘Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.’

Chuck said, ‘Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse.’ The farmer asked, ‘What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’ The farmer said, ‘You can’t raffle off a dead horse!’ Chuck said, ‘Sure I can, Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.’

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, ‘What happened with that dead horse?’ Chuck said, ‘I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars a piece and made a profit of $2495.’ The farmer said, ‘Didn’t anyone complain?’ Chuck said, ‘Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back.’

Chuck grew up and now works for the government.
