DOUG SORENSEN, LCSW, CSAT-S, CCF-C

Doug

Doug is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. He began his private practice in 1989 after working several years with individuals and families at an intensive outpatient chemical dependency program. His clinical experience includes extensive work with men seeking to rebuild their lives and their relationships from the devastating consequences of childhood trauma and addiction.  In 1996 Doug began training with Dr. Patrick Carnes regarding the use of his Task-Centered approach in the treatment of sexual addiction and other intimacy based disorders. His clinical approach to addiction treatment and the underlying trauma, which often surfaces in recovery, combines the Task Model of Dr. Carnes, the Development Immaturity Model developed by Pia Mellody, and the Shame Resilience curriculum developed by Dr. Brene Brown.  Doug is a certified training supervisor for clinicians seeking certification as sexual addiction therapists by the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). He is also a Certified Connection Facilitator and Consultant (CCF-C) trained by Dr. Brene Brown, to facilitate the Connections Shame Resilience curriculum and consults with other clinicians regarding their use of the curriculum in clinical practice. Doug has lectured at both the local and national level. He has consulted with Baylor College of Medicine in the area of sexual compulsivity and has served as a guest lecturer in their human sexuality curriculum. He has also facilitated intensive workshops for Pine Grove Treatment Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and continues to develop new programs to meet the needs of addicts and their families such as the Intensive Outpatient Program for sexual addiction.

JENNY SORENSEN, M.A. LPC, CSAT, CDWF

Jenny

Jenny is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, as well as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist and a Certified Daring Way Facilitator.  This is a second career for Jenny. Through her own journey of healing and recovery, she found her calling was to become a therapist. Her own history of struggle with addiction and childhood trauma has helped Jenny meet clients’ sense of hopelessness with compassion and hope for what recovery can offer.  With over 24 years in 12-Step recovery, Jenny continues to walk the walk.  Jenny completed her certification as a sex addiction therapist (CSAT) from the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals founded by Dr. Patrick Carnes, a pioneer in the field of sexual addiction recovery.  During her training, Jenny was exposed to and became passionate about Pia Mellody’s model of childhood trauma and developmental immaturity.  She has found this treatment approach to be an especially useful foundation for her work with men and women in addiction recovery.  She has also completed her certification as a facilitator of The Daring Way™ model of relational connection, based on the research of Dr. Brene Brown.  Jenny’s approach to the treatment of sexual addiction and trauma draws from the utility and proven strength of these three models within individual, group and intensive workshop modalities.
