About Dr. Kingsley

Dr. Karen Kingsley has been a clinical psychologist committed to the practice of creative and compassionate psychotherapy for more than 20 years. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Delaware in 1987, and worked at the Center for Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Dr. Aaron Beck, the father of Cognitive Therapy, and also at the Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy under the direction of Dr. David Burns. She is a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and has also been a

Certified Trainer/Consultant for them. She was the Director of the Psychological Services Training Center at the University of Delaware prior to opening her private practice.

Dr. Kingsley is a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner and also a long-term meditator, who enjoys bringing mindfulness practices into her work. She has been particularly interested in integrating mindfulness with CBT and EMDR.

She recognizes that every individual brings a different history and outlook to therapy and tailors each therapy relationship to address the issues and style of the individual client, couple or family. She is respectful of clients’ needs to feel fully understood and not to receive a one-size-fits-all intervention. Her goal is to create a compassionate and supportive relationship to facilitate the changes that you wish to make.

She maintains offices in Ashburn and Sterling Virginia. She also provides Online Therapy.
