Dr. Boatswain uses evidence based counseling practices. This means that theories and perspective as well as techniques used in counseling have research to support their efficacy. Elements incorporated into counseling varies with each individual client. Elements in your counseling sessions may include understanding how past history and emotional hurts as well as your relationship with yourself and others affect your life ( psychodynamic and interpersonal therapy), understanding how your physical, emotional and spiritual health affect your overall well being (holistic approach), and techniques for coping with stress and emotional distress (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) .

Through many conversations with dual career families, individuals, and groups Dr. Boatswain has come to understand their needs. Dr. Boatswain has also found that that among dual career families their top 3 concerns, in order of importance are : stress/anxiety/emotional concerns, followed by physical health, and thirdly nutritional or dietary concerns.

Dr. Boatswain notes, “ A godsend is someone or something that comes into your life and provides timely help. I enjoy helping my clients navigate the twists and turns of life. The questions of ‘Am I doing this thing called life right?,’ ‘Am I in the right job?,’ ‘Am I raising my kids right?,’ ‘Am I spending my time/life the way I want to?’ Understanding how to integrate mind, body, and spirit for fulfilling relationships and optimal health is the best guidance I can offer.”
