5 Reasons Why I LOVE Poetry; Let Me Count the Ways...

Contemplation

“Falling inside myself
Afraid to see, oh can it be?”

This light that within me shines
with the sweet melody
of a mind in line, time, rhyme

How could one refuse
the call of the soul to sing
to create into being

In my sight, it alights
like a fire and flame
a bird soaring

that for this morning
visits my page and through my pen
opens a vision of where I am.”  - PG

Meditation

Bending, Breathing, Sweeping
Allowing...

All and nothing
Just dust
The ocean and the drop
Just water

The seed and the plant
Just growth
The air and the flow
Just breathe

The fire and the light
Just glow

Illuminate and radiate
the Love that from within me knows  – PG

Invocation

I am listening to the softness spread
in slow degrees
Like the petals of a flower to be read

Go slow, all things grow within the One
To everything, there is an unfolding
A natural ebb and flow

Rooted from darkness into Light
The seed holds the mystery of rebirth
Air, water, soil, and light

Bare the magic in the seed
from promise to reality,
Greening come to be – PG

Invitation

Speak to me of your heart,
of your dreams...
What is carried in the
whispers of your soul?

I hear the language of the plants
through their scent and the song of the ants.
I feel my memories buried beneath
the earth of my birth.
I am the fire in my belly
that brings forth the Truth of my Being.
My thirst is quenched
with the water of rebirth.

I am the harmony of the whole
united and grounded in the flow.
Secrets I hold,
just waiting to be told. – PG

Acceptance

love is a place
& through this place of
love move
(with the brightness of peace)
all places

yes is a world
& in this world of
yes live
(skillfully curled)
all worlds
– E.E. Cummings

Words carry power and when spoken aloud take on a cadence that verges on conscious hypnosis, carrying the reader on a journey - but really are we readers when truly immersed in poetry, or are we participants?

I write poetry mostly for me. To feel more fully, yearn more wildly and give shape to my thoughts. In giving a voice to my inner life, I illuminate it and allow it to breathe, thus freeing it to fly, taking me to higher ground.

“I love the way poets illuminate life like a holy text, drawing my attention to how dreams are made and to the beauty at the heart of the most commonplace dramas and things...Words are small shapes in the gorgeous chaos of the universe.” - Diane Ackerman
