Bonny Li

Meet Bonny Kaman Li, RP(Qualifying)

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) • Clinical Director of Théla Psychotherapy Clinic

My path to therapy wasn’t traditional. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent years as a legal advocate, supporting people through immigration, justice, and institutional systems. In that work, I saw how often individuals felt unseen, unheard, and overwhelmed. I realized that what many truly needed was not just legal solutions, but a safe and compassionate space to process, heal, and rebuild.

This realization changed everything. I pursued my Master’s in Counselling Psychology and dedicated myself to providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive therapy that honours both individual experiences and the larger systems shaping them.

My Approach

Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. I believe healing begins when you feel seen and supported, and when therapy provides both comfort and tools you can use every day.

I integrate evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches that are tailored to your needs, including:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – to process trauma, reduce distress, and build resilience.

  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) – to reshape unhelpful thought patterns and strengthen coping strategies.

  • DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) – to support emotional regulation, mindfulness, and relationship skills.

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy – to deepen understanding, repair conflict, and strengthen connection in relationships.

  • EFIT (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy) – to address attachment, anxiety, and trauma with compassion.

I work from a culturally responsive, inclusive, and neurodiversity-affirming lens. Whether you are struggling with trauma, grief, burnout, anxiety, relationship issues, or identity, I meet you where you are and help you move forward with clarity and strength.

Beyond the Therapy Room

Healing doesn’t only happen in session—it’s in the small rituals of daily life. For me, that’s the quiet grounding of brewing tea and the joyful presence of my two dogs, Emma and Evee, who also support therapy as part of canine-assisted sessions. These moments remind me of the importance of presence, patience, and connection—values I bring into my work with every client.

Let’s Work Together

Taking the first step into therapy takes courage. My role is to honour that courage by providing a safe, supportive, and empowering space for your healing journey. Next Step: Book a complimentary 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. If no times appear online, please email me directly at [email protected] — I’ll be happy to arrange something that works for you.
